Remember when you were a kid and had super crazy dreams? Ever fulfilled any of them?
I dreamed of traveling around Europe on a train. I forgot about my dream and assumed they were just fantasies I had as a kid. Time passed, and as the years went by, I fell into an existential crisis.
I couldn’t make sense of anything: whatever I did was meaningless. My relationships were unsatisfactory, work was a prison cell, and every day was an exact copy of the previous one. I tried to escape by doing sports, partying on weekends, and meeting new people, but this feeling of irrelevance remained inside me like a strange smell that doesn’t go away no matter how much you take a shower.
Everything seemed absurd to me.
After tried everything, one fine day when I was closing the bar I worked in, I found that someone had left a book on the bar. It was a bible.
I was not a spiritual person at that time, but I experienced an epiphany. I knew what I had to do: I closed my eyes and, holding that book between my hands, I formulated the question that I could not find an answer in anything I was doing — what could I do to feel better? — I opened the Bible with my eyes still closed, and when I opened them, I read a text from Matthew:
