As a kid, I didn't have money for guitar lessons, but a friend of mine did.

And every time he went to class, after he finished, he would teach me what he had learned from the teacher.

Now I play the guitar, relatively well.

That taught me a valuable lesson: you don't need a mentor who knows a lot more than you do, sometimes you just need someone who is one step ahead.

It's much more effective, because they're just at the next level you want to be at.

That's how I feel about mentors.
