Independent work time does not need to cause you anxiety and chaos in the classroom. Teaching your students to plan backward will help set them up for success and teach them valuable skills they will need as adults. Set up your whiteboard and written instructions to include backward planning. Overall, students will become more independent, confident, and productive during work time, and annoying behaviors will diminish.
