Thanks for your question, Emy. I read it hours ago and went out for my ten miles a day thinking about the answer below.

My strategy:

A good seller is always a good buyer. In writing, it's the same. A good writer must necessarily be a good reader.

I read a lot (over 100 books a year).

It's all about intersections.

Live a lot. Read a lot. Write about the intersections between your life and what you read.

How does what you read help you? What does your life say about the books you read?

Each life is unique, and that will make your articles unique.

Write your articles brutally honest, so much so that it can be uncomfortable to share certain things. Vulnerability is necessary to write. And do it with a sense of humor to take the edge off the drama.

Please review the most read articles when you have published a reasonable number of articles (I do it every hundred articles).

Look for the intersections again. What topics do you like to write about the most? What topics do your readers read the most?

Find the middle ground. Write more on that topic, but without rehashing it. Go deeper, dig deeper, and research that topic.

In my case, it is at the intersection of self-help and spirituality.

Keep doing this year after year, and you will become an authority in your niche (because it is a hybrid, a niche intersection).

Lastly, care about your readers. Readers are not looking for a writer (again, the intersection); readers are looking for a writer/friend, a writer/solver of XYZ problems.

Be honest so that they can relate to you, which gives them real hope that they can get out of the problem they face.

Get someone to do well with your writing; word of mouth will do the rest.
